No, you do not need a GP referral to book an appointment.
However, if you would like to access Medicare rebates, you can visit your GP to obtain a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This allows you to receive Medicare rebates for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year. The current Medicare rebate for a general psychologist is $98.95 per session.
You may also be eligible to access services through private health insurance, NDIS, or WorkCover. A Mental Health Care Plan is not required for these pathways.

For psychological assessments, Medicare rebates work a little differently. You may be able to claim the Medicare rebate of $98.95 for 2 out of the 3 appointments involved in the assessment process — typically the intake session and the feedback session.
Please note that the assessment session itself is generally not eligible for a Medicare rebate.
If you have private health insurance, you can also enquire with your provider to see whether you are eligible to claim part of the assessment costs.

Everyone’s journey in therapy is different, and there is no set timeline for change. Some people may notice small shifts after a few sessions, while for others, meaningful progress can take more time depending on their goals, experiences, and the challenges they are working through.
Therapy is not about “quick fixes,” but about creating lasting understanding, growth, and change. At times, therapy may feel challenging as you begin exploring difficult emotions or patterns, but this is often a natural part of the process.
Consistency, openness, and having a strong therapeutic relationship can all play an important role in progress. Together, we will work at a pace that feels supportive and appropriate for you.

All session fees are required to be paid on the day of your appointment.
When completing your intake forms, you will be asked to provide your credit or debit card details. These details are securely stored through Halaxy, and your nominated card will be charged directly after your session.
If you have a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, your Medicare rebate will be processed at the same time as payment.
If you have extras cover through your private health insurance, you may also be eligible to claim for psychological services. Please check directly with your insurer regarding your level of cover and eligibility.

Yes. Cancellations made within 24 hours of your appointment will incur a $100 late cancellation fee. Non-attendance without notice (“no-shows”) will incur the full session fee.
The cancellation policy is in place to support both clients and clinicians. Last-minute cancellations can interrupt the momentum of your therapy and delay your progress. It also means that the appointment time is unable to be offered to another client who may have been waiting for support.
Clinicians also spend time preparing for sessions and continue to incur business expenses, such as room rental and operational costs, even when an appointment goes unfilled. We appreciate your understanding and encourage as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule your appointment
